Nendrum
Black Stoneware, crawl glaze, H30 x W28cm
Nendrum Ecclesiastical site, Mahee Island, Strangford lough. The ruins of an old monastery that once had a bell tower whose bell rang out to mark the time of day but also to announce danger. This monastery was attacked by the vikings when they arrived in Ireland but these beautiful, hand built walls still partially stand. Nature has grown a layer of lichen over the stone, almost purifying it with white and preserving its history.
